Udupi, Apr 24: Support of the parishioners is must for the development of a church. It is because of the support and co-operation of the parishioners that the Thottam parish has developed well in the past 75 years, said Fr Valerian D’Souza, Episcopal Vicar of Udupi district.

He was speaking at the function organized to mark the platinum jubilee celebration of St Annes’ church here on Tuesday April 24.

Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Chancellor of Mangalore Diocese, in his speech wished all good to the parish. “The parishioners here should strive to contribute to the society in coming days,” he advised.

Priests who served in the parish as parish priests Fr Maxim Furtado, Fr Louis Cutinho, Fr Jerome Monteiro and Fr J J Martis were honoured by the Bishop.

Priests from the parish who are currently serving in different regions Fr Josvy Fernandes, Fr Archibald Fernandes, Fr Romeo Lewis, Fr Hector D’Souza and 17 religious sisters were also honoured.

Kelvin D’Souza, president of St Annes’ Family, Dubai, engineer Deepak Fernandes, stage designer Shridhar were also felicitated on the occasion.

On the occasion, a platinum jubilee souvenir, ‘Tottamcho Suvalo’ was also released. Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the function. Earlier the newly built kitchen and rest room for the church was inaugurated by the Bishop.

Fr Marcel Saldanha, vicar of Kallianpur Varado, parish priest Fr Louis D’Sa, Elias Vas, vice-president of the church parish council, secretary Alban Rodrigues and office bearers of St Annes’ Family, Dubai were present on the dais.

Thousands of parishioners and people from neighbouring parishes participated the event with great enthusiasm.
