Udupi, Apr 27: Locals led by elected representatives and office bearers of Nagarjuna Virodhi Samiti and Nandikur Janajagruti Samiti picketed Padubidri police station on Saturday April 28 morning.

The agitation was held in protest against the arrest and judicial custody of Nandikur Janajagruti Samiti president Lakshman Shetty.  The agitators demanded the immediate release of Lakshman Shetty and also demanded that Padubidri SI Navinchandra Jogi must be suspended.

They alleged that district administration and the police are in hand in glove in forcing Nagarjuna on local people even when they are against it.  They threatened to intensify protest in case the administration still works as agent of Nagarjuna.

Lakshman Shetty was arrested for allegedly assaulting Nagarjuna security staff while in a bid to stop digging a borewell in the project area.

MP Manorama Madhwaraj, MLA Lalaji R Mendon, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, ZP member Shashikanth Padubidri, TP members Neeta Gururaj, Ramesh Anchan, Katpadi Shankar Poojary, district Congress president M A Gafoor, Kaup block BJP president Raveendra Shetty, Yellur GP president Yashwant Shetty, Padubidri GP president Netravati Shetty, Hejamady GP president Sudhakar Karkera, Uchila GP president Prabhavati Muddana Kotian, Tenka Yermal GP president Satish Salian, Palimar GP president Madhukar Suvarna and Mudaranagady GP president David D'Souza were also present at the protest.
