New Delhi, Apr 30: Mid-day temperatures hovered two to seven degrees above normal in north and central India taking the toll to five.

Large parts of Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Preadesh are under the severe heat wave. Three persons died in Punjab and one each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Jammu experienced a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius while Amritsar grilled under the hot sun at 43 degrees Celsius.

The capital sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius while Chandigarh was at 40 degrees Celsius.
