Coimbatore, May 4: Reports that "a flying object" had fallen in a thickly forested area in this district prompted forest and police officials to rush to the spot on Friday.

Rumours were afloat since this afternoon that a helicopter or a small aircraft had crashed in the Gurumalai area of Amaravathi, bordering Kerala, on Thursday night.

When contacted, police said they had received information that some tribals had noticed a "fireball" falling in the area in Thursday night.

Based on the description given by the tribals, the object could be a training aircraft, helicopter or a glider, they said.

To verify the reports, forest and police officials rushed to the area.
