Nairobi, May 5: A Kenya Airways airliner with 115 people on board that disappeared after taking off from Douala airport in Cameroon has crashed, an aviation official said on Saturday.

"The plane has crashed," said the official with the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority, asking not to be named. There were 106 passengers, eight crew members and an engineer on the plane.

However, the fate of the passengers and crew members is not known immediately.

A top government official said, "We have located the plane ... And we cannot talk about it."

The last message from the aircraft was received by the control tower in Douala immediately after takeoff.

Flight KQ 507 belonging to Kenya Airways and operated by a B737-800 aircraft took off at 12.05 pm and was due to arrive in Nairobi at 06.15 am, said a press statement posted on Kenyan Airways website.
