Jun 30, (Emirates 247): Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (Haad) announced the withdrawal of batches of Otrivin nasal spray 0.05%,10ml and 5ml with immediate effect.
The decision follows because of a fault found in the Arabic dose instructions labelled on the packet, according to a report in ‘Al Khaleej’.
Manufactured by Novartis Consumer Health SA, the product is a sedative spray for nose for congestion as a result of different reasons such as flu, sinusitis, hay fever and sensitivity.
Haad, in a circular distributed to healthcare providers, said the decision came after the manufacturing company began to withdraw the mentioned products because of a fault found in the Arabic dose instructions labelled on the packet.
The correct dose is one spray in each nostril three times a day. Instead, the dose mentioned in these batches of the product is one to two drop/s in each nostril one to two time/s a day. This may exceed the limit of dose prescribed per day.
However, instructions in both Arabic and English in the enclosed leaflet are correct. The medicine itself is safe and registered by the Ministry of Health and available in UAE markets.
