Kolkata, May 10: In a gory act apparently motivated by black magic, a man in West Bengal beheaded his mother on Tuesday and offered her blood to appease goddess Kali.

The incident occurred at Gaighata in North 24-Parganas district, 50 km from here, early on Tuesday when Abhijit Roy, 27, beheaded his 65-year-old mother Arati, local reports said on Wednesday.

Later Abhijit dragged his mother's blood splattered body and the head and buried the two pieces in two pits he had dug up in a nearby courtyard. Police said the murder was committed in a frenzied moment, probably under the influence of witchcraft.

Neighbours said Abhijit had read out few verses from the Gita on Monday night before killing his mother. According to local people, after murdering his mother the man started screaming 'more blood' and also tried to kill his elder brother Bablu and his family members.

Bablu, somehow, managed to escape with his wife and their one-year-old son.

Witnesses reportedly told police that after Abhijit killed his mother, they heard him scream: "I want more blood. Kali wants more blood."

In a similar incident last year, a man in northern India killed his son by slitting his throat with a razor under influence of black magic.
