Mangalore, May 15: The highways and monsoons have a long-time faithful relationship. With the every onset of monsoons, highways almost cave in.  The situation becomes so grim that travelling on these roads becomes a nightmare. So as the monsoons arrive, the only question that arises in everyone’s mind is whether the national highways will ensure a smooth comfortable travel by repairing the stretch before the monsoon sets.

This is the same case this year too when one speaks about NH 48 which connects the city with state capital Bangalore. A year ago when a stretch on NH 48 seemed beyond repairs KSRTC had diverted its luxury buses including volvo buses on Mysore route to reach Bangalore in a round-about way.

With a section of the stretch, from Marthahalli to Shiradi Ghats on NH 48, worsening this time even before the beginning of monsoons, KSRTC has been left with little options as of now.  Possibilities of this stretch being repaired before rains are too grim.

The 17 kilometre stretch which was repaired sometime ago had peeled-off even before the payments had been made to the agency.

The bad stretches have increased the road’s susceptibility to accidents. Many drivers of private and government buses have been complaining that the bad roads on Shirady Ghats had reduced the vehicle’s efficiency.   But it is sad that no one is there to hear their plight.  But there are many waiting to throw stones at them when accidents occur owing to these roads.
