SC dismisses Vijay Mallya's plea in FERA violation case

New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI): The Supreme Court today dismissed liquor baron Vijay Mallya's plea seeking quashing of criminal proceedings against him in a case pertaining to violation of foreign exchange rules.

A bench headed by Justice J S Khehar also imposed Rs 10 lakh as costs on Mallya in the case. Earlier, the apex court had issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the UB Group chief's plea against the Delhi High Court order turning down his appeal for quashing criminal proceedings in a trial court for alleged "wilful" disobedience of summons issued to him by the ED.

The ED had alleged that Mallya violated the provisions of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) in arranging funds to advertise his liquor products abroad over a decade ago.

The agency wanted to question Mallya in connection with a contract signed in December 1995 with London-based firm Benetton Formula Ltd for promotion of the Kingfisher brand abroad.

Mallya had allegedly paid 200,000 dollars to the British firm for displaying the Kingfisher logo in Formula One World Championships in London and some European countries in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

The money was allegedly paid without prior approval from the RBI in violation FERA norms.

This Rajya Sabha member having huge NPA of more than 8500 crores in PSU Bank. How our banks have given such huge amount without proper due deliverance and securities. Probably, he made our Ministers happy to get the loan. When Private Banks are performing, why our PSU Bank are lagging. Our politicians have made PSU Bank as their milching cows.

Sir, the greatest brainwashed misconception of some of the richest people is this, they can exploit, kill and rob the innocent masses but that sin can be wiped off through donating huge gift to their religious leaders or worship centers. I do remember Minister Reddy who is now in jail donating crores Rs. worth of some gift to a well known Temple.

A few of the business people from all religious background are caught up in this misguided drama.

Mr. Hegde: There is a divine curse attached to the liquor business. One prime example is the Kennedy family. The grandfather of John F. Kennedy started a liquor business and it began to get bigger and they donated money to the Democratic
    party, thus John Kennedy's father
Joseph Kennedy Jr. was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to England while Franklin D.Rossevelt was the President. They got the exclusive rights to import Scottish whiskey to the U.S., got too rich and became one of the richest families in the U.S. Through a narrow margin, John F. Kennedy became the U.S. President beating Richard Nixon, their monetary power earned the victory. Joseph Kennedy Jr said that he will buy the presidency of America for one of his sons his aim was with the elder son who was killed in Europe in a plane crash during the world war II, but finally landed at John F. Kennedy. I have a very great respect for him and his brother Edward and Robert Kennedy they had love and compassion for the black people and Senator Edward Kennedy played the key role in liberalizing the Immigration and Naturalization policy of the U.S., through which immigrants from Asia and Africa and from the rest of the world could land in the U.S., which was the exclusive birthright of the people of Europe.

How many thousands of people have killed, broken families, orphans and widows, financial ruin etc due to the consumption of their whiskey
    supply?

Likewise many other families in the world have faced tragedies through this business.

None of the holy books or religions advises people to rob or cheat someone and offer the benefit of that to any holy places in any form. No way to get rid of immorality in that way. He is deserved for his crime and he/ she has to pay off for that.
