Stany Fernandes Elected President of MCCP

Muscat, May 19: Stanley T. H. Fernandes, well known among Mangaloreans in Oman as “Dattu” (Big Brother) has taken the charge of the Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish (Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi) as the New President for the year 2007 – 2008.  Stanley, as most of Mangaloreans genuinely felt, is the right and perfect leader for the MCCP to lead a new and vibrant team. Stanley hailing from Milagres Parish, Mangalore Diocese, popular among Mangaloreans with his superb personality and down to earth nature, was an unanimous choice of the MCCP core committee. He has amazing 34 years of experience in Oman, worked with Photo Center and currently working as a top manager with Ijlaal Trading LLC of Hitec Centre Group.



Main Coordinator’s responsibility has been taken by well known Konkani activist and writer,  Dilip Correa, Pernal and he will be the leader of Cultural, Spiritual and Public Relations committees.  Valerian Dantis of Paladka Parish, an active Cricket personality of yester years, will be managing and leading the Sports and Finance Committees as their main coordinator.

 The whole new team is full of talents and has expressed dedicated and unselfish service to the community. “We have young and very enthusiastic committee this time,” said one of the senior Mangalorean to daijiworld team. “ and we will have wonderful year 2007 – 2008”






Prior to the formation of the new Executive Committee 2007 - 2008, an exciting and entertaining “Fifteenth Annual Day” program was planned and presented by the outgoing Executive Committee 2006 –2007 under the leadership of Clarence Pinto and Suraj Rebello.

The function started at 10.30 a.m. with a “Thanks giving Holy Mass” in Konkani at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi in the presence of record number of faithful of the Konkani origin.  Our Mangalorean priest of the parish, Fr. Albert D Silva, Cap was the main celebrant.  Konkani Choir under the leadership of Apolinaris D Souza gave a scintillating performance and presented some of the golden oldies like Vandan Tuka Somiyam, Mai Mohineache. Meval Dantis young and talented musician of the community provided the music to the choir.

Immediately after the Holy Mass, cultural program commenced at 12.15 pm with a brilliant patriotic song “Amchi Konkani Amchi Mai Bhas”, composed by Konkani Sangeethacho Rai Kuvar (Prince of Konkani Music) Oswald D Souza when MCCP formed around 15 years ago. Well-known konkani singers like Dolphy Vaz, Ronald Lobo, Victoria Soares, Nirmala Goveas, Jochim D Souza, Allen Fernandes, Ivan Moras and many others had participated in the presentation of this enchanting hymn.




Dilip Correa was the master of the ceremony of the whole program and without any doubts, as everyone appreciated, did a great job of control and perfect presentation.  Each and every item was presented in Konkani and introduction was to the point and precise in nature.  Fr. Albert D’ Silva offered prayers seeking heavenly father’s choicest blessings on the audience and the program. The General Secretary of the MCCP – Nirmala Goveas presented the annual report of 2006 - 2007.  The outgoing MCCP Executive Committee 2006 – 2007 was honored with presentations of mementos,  including the spiritual advisor, Fr Albert.

Formation of New Committee was held under the guidance of Spiritual advisor, Fr. Albert and the leadership of Donald Pinto, prominent Mangalorean of the Ruwi Parish and member of the Parish Pastoral Council and Monica Dantis, former General Secretary of MCCP. The formation of new committee as detailed above, welcomed by the whole community with a thunderous applause.




In his speech as chief guest, Fr. Albert expressed his gratitude to all the Mangaloreans of the Parish and their support to the various needs.

Enthralling entertainment program was held immediately after this formal ceremony. Konkani Matha – a skit presented by the children under the direction of Shalet Noronha was a brilliant presentation. Vechik Puth (Prodigal Son) was presented under the direction of well-known Konkani artist and presenter, A L Monis and Konkani Poet Nirmala Goveas, gave a perfect message to the modern generation.  The dance presentation by the tiny tots of the center “Batkaranchim Settam” was once again entertained the audience very well. There were two rib-tickling skits – Natkullo and Konglish, written and directed Shalet Noronha, entertained the audience with amusement and laughter.  Bright and new talents of MCCP, Vinita D Souza, Salvador D Souza, Jeevan and Terryl D Souza, had presented these skits with a enjoyable flavor and touch of enjoyable of humor.  Meval Dantis provided perfect background music to these skits.




Vote of Thanks was proposed by Philomena Moras and she expressed the sincere gratitude on behalf of outgoing Executive Committee of MCCP to the sponsors and all the supporters.

Traditional Mangalorean food was served by Kiran Caterers – Ruwi. Housie- Housie was conducted by Lavina D’ Sa and Mangaloreans returned home with a great smile on their faces.
