Maari: Movie of Dhanush, by Dhanush and for Dhanush Fans

Mumbai, Jul 17: The trailer of Maari had touted Dhanush to be a Rajnikant in the making and that seems to have rung true as the movie has been entirely shouldered by Dhanush. Playing the lovable goon opposite Kajal Agarwal, Dhanush manages to grab up all the attention of the audiences.

Kajal Agarwal and the rest of the cast might as well be invisible and therefore the movie can be said to be solely for Dhanush fans. The story has nothing new to tell, and the plot seems loosely put together. The only twist in the tale, so to speak, would be the styling employed in the telling of the tale. Maari, who rules his locality with the muscle power of his henchmen, soon runs into problems with the arrival of a new police inspector played by Vijay Yesudas.

Vijay Yesudas is no Ajay Devgn and fails to make any impression as a cop in the movie. Kajal moves to the place where Maari lives to open her boutique, and like the rest of the resident business people, is forced to pay Maari protection money as well as a percentage of her profits. Maari is said to be an ordinary guy who simply wanted to live a quiet life and raise pigeons. But that was eight years ago and now the tables have turned for he seems to have become problem for all those who live in his locality.

Given that the story is one that has been told and re told time and again, it isn't one that is worth the effort of watching. For a devout Dhanush fan it still might hold a certain appeal.
