Mid Day
Mumbai, May 22: A high-security jewellery store in SEEPZ, Andheri, was robbed yesterday. Ten gold bars and diamond sets, all worth Rs 1 crore were reportedly stolen from Shankar Jewellers Ltd Co’s safety vault.
Said the complainant, Raju S Pandiya, the proprietor of the firm, the staff found all the documents, files and a couple of valuables scattered inside the vault.
According to Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Sonawane, MIDC police station, “The burglar sneaked into the vault after dismantling the signboard placed over the toilet window. He broke open the grill and glass at the window to get in.”
While the security guards, deployed at the main gate, remain clueless about who could have possibly sneaked in, even the high-security system captured no visual on its CCTVs. Interestingly, even the burglar alarm failed to go off.
The MIDC police suspect an insider or a former employee’s involvement, considering the burglar knew where the valuables were stored and didn’t ransack any other room or area.
Sonawane adds, “Preliminary investigations are on. Security personnel and employees of the company may be questioned later, depending on the direction the investigation takes.”
