Thiruvananathapuram, July 22 (IANS): The Kerala government has spent Rs.15 crore for modernisation of 35 treasuries in the state to bring them on par with the facilities being provided by modern-day banks, an official here said on Wednesday.

The government's Treasury Infrastructure Development Project (TIDP) was undertaken by Inkel Limited, a public-private partnership (PPP) initiative.

The government launched the TIDP to ensure better facilities to the people, specifically to cater to the needs of the disabled and senior pensioners.

"While 30 existing treasuries have been upgraded with all facilities, five new ones were set up. The project cost was approximately Rs.15 crore and was executed without any cost overrun," said Inkel's managing director T. Balakrishnan.

INKEL undertook the modernisation of the treasury offices following a social survey. The facilities now include accessible toilets for the disabled, lifts, token facilities with parallel counters and ramps to reduce the rush.
