London, May 24: Angelina Jolie drew inspiration from the death of her mother while shooting for a crucial scene in 'A Mighty Heart'.

Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in January after battling cancer, just days before the actress acted out Mariane who discovers that her husband, journalist Daniel Pearl, had been killed in Pakistan.

Jolie described the scene as "the hardest thing I've ever done", reports contactmusic.com

She said: "By some strange twist my mother passed away just before we shot that. It was such a great reminder of Mariane's strength in that moment and how lucky I was to have had all those years with my mother.

"When I went on set, everyone was saying, 'I'm so sorry for your loss' to me, and then they were saying the same thing to me as Mariane in the scene. It was really strange."
