Mumbai, May 24:  Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar's private bodyguard Shamim Babu Qureshi, who is also a co-accused along with her in a case of extortion, cheating and forgery, was arrested on Wednesday while allegedly trying to flee from the city.

Qureshi was apprehended from Chhatrapti Shivaji Terminus railway station in the wee hours while allegedly trying to escape, a day after Haseena appeared in a local court, police said.

"His name figures in the complaint filed by real estate agent Vinod Avlani. Qureshi was present in all the meetings when the deal was done and also threatened the complainant on Haseena's behalf," said a senior officer of the Anti Extortion Cell, which made the arrest.

According to the complainant, Haseena and her associates had failed to return Rs 30 lakh out of an advance of Rs one crore paid to them by Ravi Group of builders in connection with a redevelopment housing scheme.

Haseena, who is said to have mediated the deal, had allegedly told the complainant to "forget" the Rs 30 lakh he had paid as an advance and threatened him with dire consequences if he persisted with his demand for the money.

Qureshi was later produced in a local court which remanded him in police custody till May 30.
