Margao, Jun 1: As the Election Commission has received complains that fake Election Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) had been printed by some politicians to facilitate bogus voting in the ensuing assembly election on June 2 and has taken steps to have the EPICs thoroughly verified on the polling day.
Those found holding fake cards would be arrested, said south Goa Collector Santosh Vaidya on Thursday evening while addressing a press conference.
He said the officers had been trained in ascertaining the genuineness of the identity documents and skuch trained personnel would be deployed at all polling centres.
He added that to ensure free and fair polls, eleven companies of CRPF, comprising 1100 personnel, have come down to Goa. They will be deployed in sensitive and hypersensitive polling centres.
For the sake of smooth polling, 2932 polling officers would be posted in 21 constituencies of south Goa, which comprises 590 polling centres.
As the campaign time ended on Thursday evening, Sec 144 has been imposed from 5 pm. If any political party workers from outside the respective constituencies are found, they would face action, he further stated.
