Mangalore, Jun 2: Ullal by-election which had created a lot of uproar in the state politics ended went on peacefully at 5 pm on Saturday June 2. The not-seen-before security arranged for this election ensured that there were no major incidents of violence or even malpractices including proxy polling. All the voting machines and ballet boxex have reached Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) class rooms in the evening accompanied by tight security.
Thus the future of 5 candidates at Ullal by-election is now in the sealed ballet boxes. Presiding officers and polling officers who worked for the success of the election are now on the way to their home. They had to spend a day and night in the polling booth for this purpose. This was an opportunity for them to experience the availability of infrastructural facilities of government schools where they stayed. They had no cozy beds or posh rooms for them to sleep. Most them either perched on benches or ground on Friday night.
On the other hand, speculations have started to know about the fate of the candidates. Both BJP and Congress candidates are confident about their victory. But they are aware about the rise of JD (S) as a major power and have to wait for June 5 to know the decisions of the voters.
At the same time, district administration is glad about the peaceful voting. Speaking with ‘Daijiworld’ DC Maheshwar Rao said that about 65% voting has been recorded in Ullal constituency. SP B Dayanand also expressed the same opinion.
