Mangalore / Puttur, June 3: The Kadaba police on Sunday, June 3 have arrested 3 persons and seized a highly-treasured idol which was stolen from a temple two days earlier.

Mithun, Ravi and Satish

The arrested have been identified as Mithun, Satish and Jeep driver Ravi, who are locals. On Friday June 1 night, they broke into Shri Shankaranarayan Temple at Nalur and took away a precious metal idol.

The residents say the idol is made of rare metals and could unofficially fetch a price of Rs 1.5 crore in the international smuggling market. The value is hard to be confirmed.

The police were successful in swiftly arresting them with the idol at Balya near Kadaba. Interestingly, the jeep driver Ravi who is involved in the theft was to enter into a registered marriage at Puttur registrars’ office on Monday June 4.
It is ironical that the hands that were to tie the knot are now tied by the law of the land.

During interrogation, the culprits have confessed to having made two earlier attempts for the theft of the same idol, but failed. What has shocked the residents more is the fact that young men were involved in the act.
