Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (MM/MB)

Puttur, June 3: There was widespread speculation over the large amount seized from a night bus at Nellyadi near here, while it was on its way from Bangalore to Mangalore two days ago.

To begin with, there was confusion in the reports about the exact amount. A private news channel from Bangalore which first flashed the news along with this portal, had quoted its Mangalore office and said the amount was actually Rs 60 lac. Now in the police records it is recorded as Rs 39 lac.

Secondly, speculations were also rampant if the money belonged to the hawala operators or, given the timing of the seizure, if it was in any way connected to the black money pouring into the election campaign in Ullal.

Puttur assistant superintendent of police Dr Harsha has now indicated that the money was part of the hawala operation.

During investigations,  police have found out that the remittance was made from Deira, Dubai to Bangalore. The accused Abdullah and Mohammad Shafi were carrying this money towards Kasaragod.

There is an organized international network behind this unlawful ring and four others also have involved in it, police sources said.

The arrested have been remanded to police custody for 10 days by a court here to enable the police to carry on further inquiry.
