Margao, Jun 4: Many political party workers in the state have wagered bets of lacs of rupees on the supposedly winning horses, as the date of counting, June 5, approaches.
Although rain lashed heavily on election day of June 2, yet, the Goa electorate turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise, leading to as high percentage as 70%.
Counting of votes will be held on June 5, at two centres in Panaji (North Goa) and one centre in Margao (South Goa), as the fifth legislative assembly and the new ministry has to be constituted before June 11.
Results of all 40 seats are expected to be declared by 12.30 afternoon on June 5.
It is being said that those party workers who are sure about their candidates winning have wagered the bets with rival party workers.
Maximum attention is forcused on Navelim and Panaji constituencies. In Navelim erstwhile member of Parliament and candidate of Save Goa front Churchill Alemao is pitted against sitting education minister Luizinho Faleiro, and in Panjim erstwhile chief minister Manohar Parrikar is trying his luck with builder Dinar Tarcar as his rival.
Betting is also going on as to who would form the government and who would ally with whom.
