Mangalore, Jun 5: Koushik R of Canara College has won Derik Chess School (DCS) Premier League Chess Tournament with a score of 6 points in as many rounds held at DCS here recently.

Rathnavarma Bunnu of Dharmasthala defeated Vanessa D’Souza in the last round and was placed second with 5 points. Vanessa D’Souza of St Agnes English School and Ganesh Kumar of St Aloysius College were tied for third place with 4 points each.

Vanessa’s better tiebreak points gave her an edge over the rest. Andrea D’Souza was awarded a special prize for being the best junior performer with 3.5 points.

In general league, rural talent Pampa Peraje of Vidyodaya Higher Primary School, Konaje won the title with 5 points in 6 rounds. Rammohan Bhandary of Lourdes Central School won the second place with 5 point. Both of them have qualified to participate in premier league. Adithya Pai of Beary’s Public School came third with 4 points.

Abhijith Kamath of Sharada Vidyalaya and Allama S of Presidency were awarded the best under-10 and best under-8 player titles respectively with 3.5 points each. Mahima Khandige of St Agnes English Primary school was awarded the best player title in the girls’ category.
