Mangalore, Jun 6: Hard to believe it may be, but it is true.

A labourer providentially survived after he was literally holed up for over two hours in a wet trench here on Wednesday, June 6 evening.

The incident took place at Karimar near Padil cross. The survivor is Rajkumar Mishri (24), a migrant labourer hailing from West Bengal and was engaged in digging the trench in the city.

The trench, which was being dug for the purpose of laying of drainage pipes, collapsed around 5 pm. Hence, Rajkumar was trapped in the trench and everyone lost hopes, more so because no none knew what to do.

A huge crowd had already gathered at the spot. The police personnel of Kankanady rural station and firemen reached the spot immediately upon receiving the message and got into the act of pulling him out, with the support of locals.

After a hectic operation lasting two-hours-and-a-half, Rajkumar was extricated from the drench around 7.30 pm.

To everyone's amazement, he was found alive and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
