Udupi, Jun 8: The first-ever all-India yakshagana sahitya sammelan was inaugurated at Rajangann here on Friday June 8.

The conference was inaugurated by state small savings and information technology minister Ramchandre Gowda.  The inaugural function was presided over by Keremane Shambhu Hegde, president of Karnataka Yakshagana and Janapada Academy.

Senior yakshagana artiste Malpe Ramadasa Samaga is presiding over the three-day yakshagana conference.

Senior Kannada writer and poet Kayyara Kinnanha Rai, DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat president and working president of the conference reception committee Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor were also present on the dais.

There were lectures on yakshagana and related subjects by yakshagana experts and a seminar presided over by folklore scholar and writer Prof Amrita Someshwar.

There will also be performances on five different forms of Yakshagana including one by children later in the evening.
