Mangalore, Jun 9: Violence and protests are not the solutions to the issue of border dispute between the state and Kerala, opined veteran communist leader B V Kakkilaya.

He was speaking at the inauguration of golden jubilee celebrations of the unification of Karnataka, organised by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike at Town Hall here on Friday June 8.

He called for a more pragmatic approach to the issue and suggested preparing a special Bill which would be discussed in the parliament. The enactment of the Bill with majority support will solve the dispute, Kakkilaya said.

Earlier, the district unit of the Vedike was inuagurated noted advocate K Monappa Bhandary. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Vedike state president T A Narayana Gowda.

Former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas, renowned Ayurvedic specialist Dr M K Gardadi, social worker Jayalakshmi Hegde, Syed Madani Educational Institution, Ullal president Haji U K Ibrahim and Lions district president Sumati S Hegde were felicitated on the occasion.

Among those present were advocate S P Chengappa, veteran writer Mohammed Baddoor, advocate B A Mohammed Haneef and programme committee convener Basheer Baikampady.
