Mangaluru: Assault on lawyer - Suspension order revoked, cop transferred to Bajpe

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The suspension order against inspector T D Nagaraj for allegedly assaulting a lawyer has been revoked, sources said.

Nagaraj, who was serving as inspector at Kadri police station, had been suspended on July 31 after lawyers led by Mangaluru bar association president Chengappa held a strong protest alleging that he had detained and assaulted lawyer Uttam Rai when the latter had come with a client to Kadri police station.

The lawyers had demanded Nagaraj's arrest, and given three days' deadline to the police. However, Nagaraj was not arrested. Uttam Rai had also filed a case against Nagaraj on several charges and a counter case was also filed.

Also, it is learnt that Nagaraj has been shifted from Kadri police station and appointed as incharge of Bajpe police station.

The orders were issued by police commissioner on Tuesday August 11.

Mangaluru bar association president Chengappa criticized the move and said that the appointment of Nagaraj as incharge of Bajpe police station was condemnable.

    Lawyers in mangalore are big bribe masters...Lawyers are lyers.Lawyers are not always rite.They know how to put criminal cases as it is their job.Mangalore lawyers think they r the big VIP's,so that no one can bit them if refuses to do their job.

    I hope all agree that there is no possibility of a lawyer entering into the police station(which has more than 60 police personnel) and assaulting a police inspector as claimed by Inspector Nagaraj.
    Lets assume the lawyer behaved incorrectly or got into an argument with the inspector. In such a case, the inspector should have handled it better. He could have asked constables to escort the lawyer out of police station or called the bar association and informed them about the lawyer behavior. Instead, the inspector and 3 more constables assaulted him and locked him inside the cell. All these happened in spite of knowing that he is an advocate!!
    If this is the way a police inspector handles the situation, then that is a very disturbing fact. Imagine tomorrow a common man like us visits the police station and experiences same treatment, who will support us?? In this case, lawyers joined together and protested against it.
    Now the police commissioner has decided to reinstate this person back to the duty who has non bailable sections on him. Without even an investigation, how could you do this!!!
    In our country there is a legal system. Let there be an investigation and if he is found to be innocent then you can revoke his suspension.

    20 year old youth died inside the police station and no one even bothered. because, he was from UP and there was no one to support him here.

    Good step taken by commissioner bringing back our GEM the honest and sincere officer MR TD Nagaraj, God is always there, None of the Liar lawyers could pull out his hair, arrest bla bla bla Even they were guilty for their act. For example just check the above image how the great dongi changappa is doing kolpu dance inside inspector’s cabin. This is a fact and for you guys those who supported MR Uttam rai my kind request is, Please do something good instead of supporting these liars. Doing all this protest in front of the station and court is not a solution other than waste of time, Truth will come out one or the other day. Example what happened to the inspector he just took a short break and resumed his duty. So guys THINK BEFORE YOU ACT.

    I agree lawyers are always fight for criminals and looting money. Still it is their legal right to protect their clients either the accused or plaintiff whom they represent.Police do not have the right to condemn the lawyer in police station when he appears for his client.

    Lawyer support a criminal / murderer openly in the court, Lawyers work hard and do a lot of home work to prove the criminal or murderer is not guilty as they have to twist the case to go against the victim. Whilst proving this, some time victims family do not get the insurance which they are supposed to get.

    Culprit come out and again starts humiliating and threaten the victim's family with dire consequences, where victims finally sell their property and go to other place to live peacefully with all the pain. In this situation no one comes together to help the victim or their family.

    I am not against all lawyers, there are many who work for justice and fight for the poor.

    Now what? He got the license to beat the Lawyers?

    Not every accused has a legal knowledge and he/she need a Lawyer to represent them during the police interrogation. There are do's and don'ts in the law and not every citizen is aware of it.

    Police should allow accused to have a lawyer during the questioning and interrogation. It is the right of the citizen in a democratic country.

    There should be a close circuit TV covering all public areas in the police stations and watched / recorded by the Commissioner of Police / SP. Then these brutal acts will stop.

    Daijiworld should investigate and find out whether this incident has been mentioned in his police record file.

    This investigation by another top cop and its outcome was known earlier. This Inspector will do the same thing whether he is posted / transferred to Bajpe or the Andaman. These cops need counselling. Very often they use bad language too. Just because they are in uniform they think they are above the law.

    I find sad that he is bieng suspended and now in now transfered to Bajpe ok the order was revoked.still find what lawyers are doing is everything right and others have to bow even Police dept?not correct.Of course Police are not correct always.Hier definately unjustice to Police has happened.
