Mangaluru: Piece of glass found 'mixed' in Kissan jam

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MD)

Mangaluru, Aug 19: A consumer in the city has found a piece of broken glass in a jar of Kissan jam.

Vinaya, a resident of Nagori, had bought a jar of Kissan jam mixed fruit (700 gm) flavour from Spar hypermarket in the first week of July.

After more than a month of consumption, when the jar was nearly empty, Vinaya found to her utter shock that a piece of glass almost the size of a matchbox was lodged in the jam at the bottom of the jar.

Vinaya then informed about the matter to Hindustan Unilever, the manufacturer, by calling on the toll-free number given on jar. A company representative advised her to preserve the jar and the glass piece, and assured that the company would approach her soon.

Speaking to daijiworld, Vinaya said, "I am worried because my family members and I have almost finished the entire content in the jar. I have been consuming Kissan jams from childhood, but now I have lost faith in it and I do not want to buy it anymore."

The manufacturing date given on the jar is May 3, 2015.

It is my observation most of the jam bottles having a stupid bottle lid which some time can not be opened easily if we keep it in the fridge, some time the glass nech itself will come out, why cant jam companies design a simple lid cover so that it is removed easily. hope concern company official take it seriously.

No justification should be provided by the Company concerned even if it is a matter of sheer carelessness. Once bitten twice shy. Adequate compensation should be taken by Vinaya, irrespective of the damages or not which will deter other Company's like this to be extra-precautions.

In our country though the consumers pay hefty sums for branded food items, there is absolutely no guarantee that the contents match the quality and hygiene standards expected. We consumers are always at the receiving end. All statutary compliances are mere a waste!!!

Maggie row has not cooled down and now the Kissan row. Believe me the media will harp over this again and again and the issue will blow out of proportions.

On another note the complaint from the consumer is genuine. Hindustan Unilever would do well to address this issue and win back the confidence of the consumers.

@Jossey S.Mumbai, need not be only made in India.such things happen in foreign countries also.may be by the production glas jar broken and pieces must have mixed in other glases too.In such case consumer must go with glas to the shop where it is bought and complain Owner has to either give the Money back or Substitute must be given. And inform Company, upon the Company has to call back the jam with Charge number immediately.when not inform Food inspectors. Now how Long the Company has not called back?let her go the shop and inform them. They even should pay her compensation .let her tell she will file a case against them for cheating her.

Lawyers here too should come forward like in west, to fight the case on behalf of the victim. The deal is like if lost, no fees but on victory it is 60 40.
Once such litigations against the companies increase, probably they will be careful in what they sell.

If it's true..Anglo-Dutch Company will give compensation to the person.
Unilever and Proctor Gamble is like 'wolves' in the market..not giving a chance to other's to succeed.
If you purchase any basic thing..all profits will go to both giants. In soaps..for poor people Hammam/Rexona..for middle class people..Lux/Lifebuoy..for affluent class people 'Dove/Pears'. What about other business people if they hold all the markets by themselves.
Close-up/Peposedent/Vaseline/Sunsilk/Brut and many more all belonged to Lever Group.

To compete in detergent sector..they introduced 'OMO' with more publicity to cope up with Henkel Persil/Dixon as well as of Proctor 'Tide'.

Now even 'Kissan' jam also belonged to Unilever..also Pond's power which is having unit in chennai..and supply worldwide.

    Confusing the most.
