Mangalore: ‘Mongolian Invasion’ strikes Taste Buds at Taj Manjarun

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Jun 17: After the successful Laknowi Food fest which tickled the palate of the choosy Mangalorean food buffs, Hotel Taj Manjarun has something exciting in its platter.
The Grand Mongolian Food Fest has already set its tables and will go on till June 24.

At the skillful hands of Chef Ravi, the Mongolian Grill offers a dining experience like no other.

“Create your very own stir-fry meal. Select from our fresh tenderloin and vegetable bar with your choice of savory condiments,” says executive Chef Ekamburam Ravi who has been spicing up food at various Taj’s in India and abroad for the last 26 years.

The Mongolian food fest is the only place that Mangaloreans can watch the specially trained chef cook the grill. It’s the first time that Mongolian food is being served in Mangalore at affordable rates.

Speaking to Daijiworld, General Manager Taj Manjarun said that the rates at the fest are low (Rs 425 all inclusive) and have been specially fixed to make this new cuisine reach the sober Mangalorean food lovers.

It was the ruthless warrior Genghis Khan who introduced Mongolian cooking when he invaded China in the 13th century. Khan’s armies camped at night, built bonfires and threw their iron shields down on the hot embers for use as a cooking surface. At the ‘Mongolian Invasion’- as food and beverage manager Taj Manjarun Vijay Pagare calls it – separate grills have been set up for vegetarian and non-vegetarian preparations.

“There cannot be Mongolian delicacy without ‘Sakhe’ (a rice wine) and primarily non-vegetarian, the cuisines offer various meats – chicken, beef, lamb, prawns and squids,” explained Chef Ravi.
He adds, “Chilly being prominently used, around 10 kinds of sauces serve individual taste.”

The food fest which is open 7.30 pm onwards at Taj Manjarun also offers a picturesque display of vegetables which can be picked and given to the chefs to be transformed into lip-smacking dishes.

One can never miss the sight of Chef Ravi artistically work on the grill and tickle your taste buds.
