Mangaluru, Aug 27: An auto rickshaw driver, who was seated in his auto rickshaw in the auto stand opposite Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Hospital at Attavar here, was attacked by a trio at around 10.45 pm on Wednesday August 26.
The victim, Gurudath (35) from Nandavar near Panemangalore, Bantwal taluk, was speaking to someone on his mobile phone when three persons armed with lethal weapons attacked him all of a sudden, it is said.
Gurudath presently resides at Jeppu Bappal with his cousin, and visits his parents at Nandavar on Sundays, it is gathered.
Gurudath was in the city to visit his relative, who gave birth to a female baby on Sunday and continues to be cared for at the maternity ward of KMC Hospital. After visiting her, Gurudath had come back to the auto stand where he had parked his three-wheeler, and was conversing with someone on his cellphone, when three men who came in a motor bike, swished a sickle and machette they were holding at him. Gurudath sustained deep injury to his left hand, shoulder and back. As soon as he jumped out of the auto, screaming for help, the trio fled in their motor bike, it is reported.
Gurudath, who rushed to KMC Hospital, was admitted and treated. His condition is stated to be stable. In his statement to the police, the auto driver said the attackers were unknown to him.
Pandeshwar station police inspector, Dinakar Shetty and other senior police officers visited the area and made inquiries.
