Ranchi, Aug 27 (IANS): The Jharkhand assembly on Thursday witnessed disruption and repeated adjournments over a demand by the opposition parties for withdrawal of the CSAT system from the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination.

The opposition members raised the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) issue immediately after the assembly proceedings began at 11 a.m.

The opposition parties had also moved for an adjournment motion over the CSAT issue. However, assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon rejected the notice.

Former chief minister and leader of opposition Hemant Soren raised the issue, saying: "The state government should announce withdrawal of CSAT from JPSC examination."

Pradeep Yadav, a legislator of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik, supported the demand, saying: "We are raising the issue in the interest of the state and in interest of the students."

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Saryu Rai said: "CSAT should not be raised this way. The opposition should raise the issue through a question during Question Hour.

"The state government is ready to consider the issue if we get any written suggestion from the members of the house or from the students."

Despite the assurance, the opposition members continued shouting slogans near the speaker's podium in support of their demand.

Amid uproar, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said: "The opposition cannot dictate terms to government."

Later, Hemant Soren told media persons: "The students of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will get benefit after introduction of CSAT.

"The level of Jharkhand students is not as required through CSAT. Even CSAT was eased in the UPSC. When CSAT is not mandatory for IAS and IPS then what's its need in appointment of deputy collectors."
