Kundapur, Jun 21: Gangolli, one of the prominent fisheries ports which was administered by Gram Panchayat for all these years is now proposed to be upgraded to town panchayat. The commercial hub of Kundapur taluk, Gangolli now seems to have turned into garbage dumping yard with open drainage on either side of the road.
The moderate rains during monsoon and other season, would choke the poorly-maintained open drains, owing to heavy accumulation of wastes, thrown by the reckless residents of nearby houses located along the road and garbage dumped by the petty shopkeepers.
It is no wonder that a drizzle of few hours would turn the main road into a pool of effluents. Moreover, the main road that links the port and the commercial street has to face the brunt of traffic throughout the day.
The motorists and the pedestrians have to manouvre with great care, while negotiating the road filled with potholes. The contractor has not undertaken road repairs though the contract has been awarded to him, by the local administration. The over-flowing garbage bins seems to threathen the health of general public.
The health conscious citizens urge the concerned health department officials, to take actions in the interest of general public.
