New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): The West-Central Railway has become the first railway division in the country to do away with unmanned level crossings.
The Jabalpur-headquartered division achieved the feat by August 31 with a view to promote safety, the railways said.
Of its 118 unmanned level crossings, 80 were eliminated in 2014-15 fiscal. And the remaining were done away with by August 31 by building "Limited Height" subways.
The West-Central Railway comprises of Jabalpur and Bhopal divisions of the erstwhile Central Railway and Kota divison of the former Western Railway.
The division covers some 2,900 km of rail network and 39 districts spread over Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Its key stations are Jabalpur, Bhopal, Kota, Jhansi and Bina.
