Panaji, Jun 29: Troubles of chief minister Digamber Kamat seems to be far away from ending as he is facing music from all the sides. While lone lady legislator Victoria Fernandes had taken to streets demanding ministerial berth, the key supporter, Nationalistic Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday June 28 threatened to pull out from the government, alleging breach of trust.
The NCP, which is having three legislators, of which two are ministers, demanded urban development portfolio. The trouble began few hours after Kamat allocated portfolios.
The party got plum ministries like tourism, revenue and housing but the leaders wanted urban development ministry, which was promised to them during the talks in Delhi.
The day began with the political ambiguity as the NCP legislators gathered at the residence of Dr Wilfred D'Souza the unit chief in Saligao sent out clear cut warning of withdrawing from the government.
The chief minister rushed to Saligao for troubleshooting mission which lasted during the morning session. A NCP leader said that the talks were full of loopholes and hence would continue on Friday June 29.
“There are some problems... I agree. NCP is our pre-poll alliance partner and I am sure that everything will be settled,” said Kamat addressing the reporters.
Reacting on the issue he further said that they are working in a democratic set up and problems are bound to occur. The chief minister, however, ruled out instability in the government.
In yet another trouble, the chief minister, came face to face with the supporters of lone lady legislator Victoria Fernandes, who is on strike demanding ministerial position.
The 70-year-old Victoria had resorted to hunger strike since Monday June 25 and withdrew it on Thursday June 28 after her supporters requested her. Fernandes' health got worsened and was transferred to a private clinic in the city.
Fernandes' supporters blocked Kamat when he had come to address press conference at old secretariat complex on Thursday June 28. The chief minister moved out with the police protection.
