Mangaluru, Sep 10: An accident involving a truck and a motor bike which occurred near Kotekar Beeri on national highway 66 in the outskirts of the city took away the life of the motor bike rider. The pillion rider, who suffered grievous injuries in the accident, is being treated in a hospital in the city. The accident occurred late night on Tuesday September 8.

Muhammed Zakaria (23), residing near Talapady check post died in this accident, while Shiyab (22), who hails from Talapady K C Nagar, was admitted into a hospital here with grave injuries.

After his catering job for the day was finished, Muhammed Zakaria was returning home in his motor bike late night on Tuesday with his friend, Shiyab, on the pillion, when the bike hit the stationary truck near the commercial tax office near Beeri. Zakaria, who was earlier employed for a year in Dubai and had returned to his native place, and was undertaking sundry jobs here, died instantly. It is said that he was preparing to leave for the Gulf on September 18. He is survived by parents, five brothers, and a sister.

Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike activists thereafter staged a protest in front of the commercial tax office, holding official apathy responsible for causing a number of accidents there. The protesters said that a large number of truck drivers park their vehicles on the highway and visit the check post for verification of documents, thus causing undue problems for vehicles moving on the highway, and resulting in accidents. They noted that even after several protests were held in the past for the same reason, no steps had been taken by the officials to improve the situation. Yogeesh Shetty Jeppu, president of the central committee of the Vedike, held the commercial tax department squarely responsible for the deaths and injuries caused in accidents at this spot.

Talapady village president of the central committee of the Vedike, Hasinar K C Road, Someshwara unit president, Ahmed Peribail, Kotekar unit president, Ravi Shetty, Hameed Hassan Madoor, and others were present. The officials of the commercial tax department visited the protesters, held discussions with Ullal police and leaders of the Vedike. They promised to take adequate safety measures on the highway. Thereafter the protest was called off.

A case about the accident was registered in Ullal police station.

Two wheelers accidental deaths are more than the sucides taking place in karnatka
the reasons for death are quite opposite in naturei.e.one side financial problem and other side is lavish life with over speed. The agony and end result is same.So immediate attention is required by the concerned authorities because the deaths in both cases can be stopped with due deligence and care by all the concerned

Inna Lillahi Vainna Ilaihi Rajioon. Indeed really a very sad news and a loss of young life with the other still in hospital. May Allah protect the injured In Shaa Allah.

Oh my GOD…, 2-Wheelers 2-Wheelers 2-Wheelers on Mangalore roads? The way they ride their motorbikes is as if they are the only one using the road and in the event of any slight mishap or even a near miss the way they look & stare at others is hard to understand. Only thing we can say is, may GOD help these 2-Wheelers!

May his sol rest in peace.

First of all in Mangalore two wheeler riders must learn to follow the traffic rules. It is my experience when I go to Mangalore usually I drive four wheeler, Really I am scared of these two wheeler. My two eyes are not enough from which side they enter and all of a sudden they just come in front of the vehicle. Many a time we need to apply sudden break.

In this way if by mistake if a big vehicle met with an accident with two wheeler and any one dies the blame is on the four or six wheeler and various protest like in this news 'blame is on check post'. No one is talking the two wheeler rider followed the traffic rules and personal safety.

...and no one enquires in what state was the victim when he hit a 'stationary' vehicle which is obviously not parked in the middle of the road.

May his soul rest in peace.

I agree 200 %. I always keep responding in such situations as 99% mistake will be of 2 wheelers. even I drive 4 wheeler at Mangalore and these 2 wheelers ( excluding few who really drive safely ), these youngsters think they are heroes or stunt masters and drive on the road. Rash and Reckless driving making thousands of people die on the road. So many accidents we have seen... still they don't learn lesson. they think all others on the road are jokers and they are the heroes. actually everybody look at them as jokers feeling pity on their lives and parents who may loose them any time.

In india Safety is the last priority. Drivers don't respect the rules of the Highway. You may find vehicles parked on the highway without any warning signs or hazard lights. Govt must intervene and impose strict rules while issuing licenses. Mere ability to drive the vehicles should not be the only criteria for getting licenses, people should be made aware Road safety and exams to be conducted on this basis. Also traffic police must impose strict rules and impose fines.

Though we lost one life of a youth but none of them daring to advise youths from their own region at least to drive slowly and carefully!!!!! “Checknaka” is required though it is more inconvenient to common public else how they can check the malpractice???? It’s easy to blame Govt Commercial Officers but fact is we too don’t want to pay tax in full so the corruption or bribes exists!!!!
