Times of India

We have made it: The Taj Mahal has found its place in the new list of seven wonders

New Delhi, Jul 8: The Taj Mahal, regarded as one of the most beautiful monuments, was last night voted in a global poll as one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Officials of the I Media Corp, the Indian representative of 'New7wonders of the World', claimed that they got the information about the Mughal marvel getting into the list from the Swiss organization which organized the worldwide campaign.

The official declaration of the new seven wonders of the world was to be done in Lisbon at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday..

Asked about the number of votes cast in favour of Taj, 'the monument of love', the I Media Corp officials said that they have no information regarding this.

"Information like the number of votes polled in favour of Taj and the other selected monuments will be available only after the official declaration," they said.

The worldwide poll, in which people could vote for their favourite monument either on-line or through SMS, was conducted by the New 7 Wonders Foundation, a Swiss non-profit group.

Agency report:

Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer, Peru's Machu Picchu, and Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid were chosen alongside the Great Wall of China, Jordan's Petra, the Colosseum in Rome and India's Taj Mahal.

Once again Taj Mahal, nations pride has been selected as one of the wonders in planet earth. As an Indian it is cheerful moment for us and good news for the global heritage lovers. Thousands of precious pieces of history spreading all over India, but our passion for those glorious past is negligible.

I have had a chance to visit North India in 1998 with my family and I visited Taj Mahal, really it is an amazing moment in my life. While we entered through arch shaped gate of Taj Mahal (There are more gates we have to pass), in a first instance we see a huge piece of marble covered by snow. I am grateful to Almighty to giving me a chance to visit such wonderful place.

Woh Taj..., !!. It is a most exciting minute in my life. Manifestation of love resembled in the name of Taj Mahal systematically carved by skilled ancient artists and workers. I was amazed by one of many information briefed by tour guide is that one single piece marble placed at roof is lifted by hand and available logistic at that time (Now I think it need 40 ton crane required to lift to such a height).

I have evidenced some gloomy side of our taste to the historical monuments. We Indians having less interest and respect to our history than Europeans and Japanese. I have had evidenced during my whole North India trip, I met with tremendous number of Europeans and other nationals in and around of historical places like Taj Mahal, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bharathpur and Delhi, but only could only see a few Indians visiting these historical places.

We could have attracted more foreign tourists around the world if our successive governments had taken at least some positive measures to tap the tourism economy. Due to lack of commitment to Adhiti Devoo Bhava culture has failed to attract substantial share of the global tourism business.

The official declaration from the Swiss organisation has been out on 08/07/2007 about the new Seven Wonders of the World, including the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is indeed one of the best monuments on this earth and I have seen writers in Daiji World and media reports expressing their joys at Taj Mahal being voted as one of the wonders.

This is incredible and amazing and a cause for joy and celebration. However, in all this euphoria, we have forgotten the man who made this possible. Had it not been for the great Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, we would not have been celebrating about Taj Mahal as one of the Seven Wonders of the World?

This man is one of the greatest builders in India's history, who built marvellous buildings like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, Red Fort and many other monuments that are not only historical, but are also heritage sites. In all this ecstasy, we should not forget this truly great emperor and say a big THANKS to him.

As as Indian, I am proud that Taj Mahal has been chosen as one of the modern wonders of the world. Shah Jahan was truly a great Mughal ruler, who built many edifices that have stood the test of time, namely Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Babri Masjid, Red Fort, etc.

Taj Mahal is indeed a marvellous monument or mausoleum and a true embodiment of love. This selection of Taj Mahal as one of the seven wonders of the world, will certain give a boost to tourism, both from the country and outside.

Truely a delighting news for all Indians. I thank many of the regular readers who have responded to my call in this site & voted for Taj. We are eating the fruit of our efforts in voting as we see Taj as one of the 7 marvels in the world. I am too eager to know the number of votes polled. Till now the efforts have not been successful.

However many thanks to Daijiworld too, for publishing my message and motivating the readers for this noble cause of ing our own Taj & publishing this great news now.
