New Delhi, Sep 27 (India Today) : At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the US meeting who's who of the technology world to attract investment in India, a huge political row has erupted back home. Both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have hit out at the PM for asking foreign companies to invest in India.
While PM Modi is pushing his Make in India and Digital India schemes in US, the Congress criticised him for taking credit for Digital India campaign arguing that Modi should give credit to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who initiated it first.
"If India has become a success in the field of telecom, the credit for that should go to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who actually laid the foundation of the entire information technology revolution in the country. The current government is only reaping the benefit of the very solid foundation laid by successive Congress government," senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said.
"PM Modi must name the pioneer of the technology wave in India. Rajiv Gandhi initiated it. Infact, RSS and BJP had mocked Rajiv Gandhi back then. They even referred to him as Mr. Computer. Today, they interating his voice for development," said former Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit.
Make India first: Kejriwal
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the prime minister should focus on making India.
Taking dig at PM Modi's US visit, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the prime minister should focus on making India.
"PM should first focus on making India. Going around the world pleading people to come to India will not help. The government should first spend on people of India and the world would follow. If we create a conducive atmoshphere, people will automatically come, invest and Make in India," Kejriwal told reporters in Delhi.
"Make in India would automatically happen if we first Make India. Make India is to invest in health, education, water, safety, justice and infrastructure," Kejriwal had tweeted earlier.
BJP hits back
Hitting back at the opposition, BJP said PM Modi's initiatives will bring millions of job in the country.
Prime Minister's programme will usher new technology in India. It will bring low cost internet, broadband, at the same time it will create millions of job in the country, " BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said.
"Arvind Kejriwal should first focus on working for the people of Delhi. Dengue has killed many in Delhi but the Kejriwal government has done nothing," BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said.
