Dharamsala, Oct 2 (IANS): The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, described its "middle-way" approach on Tibet as similar to Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence movement.

Pema Chhinjor, a senior member in the CTA led by Lobsang Sangay, said the "middle-way" approach of the CTA is "similar to Gandhiji's ahimsa movement" because of its peaceful and re-conciliatory spirit.

After hoisting the Indian national flag here, Chhinjor offered a Tibetan ceremonial scarf before a portrait of the Mahatma as a tribute to his non-violent and peaceful methods during the Indian freedom struggle against British rule.

"Gandhiji was a great person born in this great nation. He showed the world ahimsa, the path to a peaceful freedom movement and the world today greatly appreciates it," Chhinjor said in an official statement.

The CTA believes in the "middle-way approach" that demands "greater autonomy" for the people in Tibet.

The Tibetan administration is based here in Himachal Pradesh and is not recognised by any country. Over 100,000 Tibetans live in India.
