Bengaluru, Oct 7 (PTI): Two men were arrested today for alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old call centre employee here at knife point in their moving van after they offered to ferry her home.
Police said the accused were nabbed after the victim gave the random digits of the vehicle's numberplate.
The woman was waiting to hail a bus to return to her PG home and boarded the van which stopped by offering her a drop, City Police N S Megharikh told reporters.
"She was waiting for the BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus along with her friend to return to her PG home and boarded the van which stopped by and offered a drop. Her friend, however, insisted not to board the vehicle, but she (the victim) did not heed her appeal," the Police Commissioner said.
The woman, who hails from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, was allegedly gangraped on the night of October three by the vehicle driver and the cleaner, Megharikh said, adding the victim was taken to a deserted spot before she was dropped in Madiwala area here.
Police said for nearly three hours, the two men drove around deserted places of the Madivala area and raped the woman.
The men allegedly dumped the woman near a temple. The woman called her sister with whom she stays and friends, who rushed to the spot and took her to the St.John's Hospital nearby.
She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and discharged yesterday, Megharikh said.
Asked whether the police will take action against the BPO company for not following the labour guidelines, Megharikh said, "We will look into the matter and do the needful."
The incident has come as a grim reminder of the 2012 gang rape of a paramedical student in Delhi, who later died, triggering a massive outrage across the nation.
In 2005, a 24-year-old employee of a city-based multi-national firm was raped and murdered by the cab driver who was later sentenced for life.

Driver, cleaner rape Bengaluru BPO employee
Bengaluru, Oct 6 (DHNS): A 22-year-old employee of a leading BPO in Madivala was gang-raped by the driver and cleaner of a tempo traveller she opted to travel in on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The incident came to light on Monday.
According to the police, the victim and her friend dined at a restaurant on Hosur Road on Saturday night. Later, her friend dropped her near Bommanahalli bus stop.
While she was waiting to catch a bus to reach her house in HSR Layout, a tempo traveller offered to drop waiting passengers to Madivala, Bommanahalli and HSR Layout.
The victim, a native of Madhya Pradesh, got into the vehicle as the “driver’s face was familiar”, the police said.
Vehicle takes deviation
There was nobody else in the vehicle. The victim grew suspicious and protested when they took a deviation from Hosur Main road.
She told them to stop and asked them where they were heading. The duo threatened her with a knife, took her to a secluded place and raped her.
Four hours later, around 2 am, they dropped her back to Bommanahalli bus stop, the police said. She managed to reach her house and contacted her friend, who rushed her to St John’s Medical College Hospital.
The police rounded up a few people based on the details provided by the victim. However, she said they were not the ones who committed the crime.
“We have formed three teams to arrest the duo. We have traced the vehicle registration number. We have completed all medical, legal and investigation formalities and the two will be arrested soon,” Additional Commissioner of Police (East) P Harishekharan told Deccan Herald.
The victim’s parents rushed to Bengaluru on Sunday and took her back to Madhya Pradesh.
The victim came to Bengaluru about a year ago. She would usually return home from office by bus or private vehicles, the police added.
