US-led airstrikes destroy power stations in Syria: Report

Damascus, Oct 10 (IANS): The US-led airstrikes destroyed two electricity stations in Syria's Aleppo city on Saturday causing a major blackout, a media report said.

Two warplanes with the US-led anti-terror coalition struck the electricity stations in Aleppo, Xinhua reported citing the state-run TV.

"Two F-16 war jets violated the Syrian airspace and targeted the infrastructure in the city in a flagrant violation of international law," the TV said, citing a military source.

The US-led coalition, which has been pounding the Islamic State (IS) positions since last year, has been recently overshadowed by the current Russian airstrikes that have started last week.

Government officials said the Russian airstrikes have achieved "direct results", unlike the US-led airstrikes, which, they say, have done nothing to stem the momentum of the IS terror group.
