Cabinet clears India-Egypt accord on maritime transport

New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS): The cabinet on Wednesday approved the maritime transport agreement between India and Egypt, ahead of the India-Africa Forum Summit to be attended by over 50 African leaders, due to start here on Monday.

"It has been decided to sign the agreement with a view to strengthening cooperation and render sustained mutual assistance and advice on merchant shipping and other related maritime matters," a cabinet communique said.

The agreement will help both countries develop their maritime relationship and stimulate the growth of maritime traffic, as well as in setting up joint ventures in the maritime sector, India's shipping ministry said in a statement.

Egypt is strategically located in North Africa as a gateway to the continent, as well as on the sea route to Europe.
