11 killed in Mizoram bus accident


Aizawl, Oct 25 (PTI) : Eleven people were killed and 21 others injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge in south Mizoram's Lunglei district, police said today.

The passenger bus, plying between Aizawl and Lawngtlai, headquarter of Lawngtlai district, rolled down the gorge near Ramlaitui village last night. The deceased included four women, of whom two were pregnant, and the driver of the bus, police said.

The cause of the accident was yet to be determined. However, the police suspect that the driver might have been dozed off or was drunk. The injured were taken to a hospital at Thenzawl in Serchhip district.

    So sad, so many healthy, working and civilized people are dying for no fault of theirs.
    It is high time for Govt to provide secured and accident free roads.
    Drivers on whom we entrust our lives on wheel should have fair pay and working condition, lessons on human life value and well being.
    May the deceased rest in peace!
    Instead on working in these neglected areas, Union Transport Ministry first attempted to increase fines many fold.
