Mangala swimming pool members win medals in various competitions

Mangaluru, Oct 28: Members of Mangala Swimming Pool, Mangaluru have won 28 medals in state level swimming competitions held by the department of public instruction breaking previous records.

                 

Promising members of the swimming pool participated in the swimming competition held at Bengaluru Basavanagudi swimming pool by the department of public instruction recently and won six gold medals,
eight silver medals and six bronze medals in different categories based on age. They won six silver medals and two bronze medals in state level swimming competition held at Gulbarga by the department of pre university education. Similarly the members participated in Vidya Bharathi All India sports swimming competition held in Madhya Pradesh and won three gold medals.

The participants are selected for Karnataka state swimmers team and Vidyabharathi swimmers team in national level swimming competition scheduled in Calcutta from November 4 to 8.

Shishir S Gatti of St Aloysius Pre University College, Mangaluru won three silver medals and one bronze medal and Dhanush K of Mahesh Pre University College won two bronze medals in the 19 years categories.

In the 17 years old girls category, Risha Shenoy of St Annes High School won three bronze medals. In the below 14 years old category, students of Ramakrishna Higher primary school, Sanya D Shetty has won two gold medals, three silver medals; S R Rachana Rao won two gold medals and three silver medals. Students of Victoria Ladyhill Girls High School, Mangaluru, Greeshma Shetty won two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal; Manasa won one bronze medal.

In the Vidya Bharathi All India sports festival, Aradhana Bekal of Sharada Vidyaniketan, Talapady won three gold medals.

All the sports persons are trained by American Swimming Coaching association trained chief trainer, Lokaraj Vitla and assistant trainers Pundalik Kharvi, Shivananda Gatti and Santhosh P M in the corporation swimming pool.

"The team selected for national level will be trained for two days from October 31 at Bengaluru's Basavanagudi swimming pool," said club president Pramukh Rai and secretary Shivananda Gatti at a press release.
