Mangalore, Aug 7: St Ann’s School in Kuntikana held a formal function to launch the eco club and Vanamahotsava - the planting of trees.
Along with the launch of the eco club and tree planting, St. Ann’s school also organized a lecture-cum-slide show illustrating how water can be saved and purified, how to keep the surroundings clean and so on. .
The school children also planted tree saplings on the occasion. Irene from the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation was the chief guest at the launch of the eco club and Raymond D’Cunha, Jayanna and Sr. Clarence launched the tree planting programme.
Headmistress Sr. Avia and members of the eco club participated in the tree planting event. Alinda welcomed the gathering and Reyna proposed the vote of thanks. A skit on “Nisarga Devate” (goddess of nature) was well received.
Gurupurnima celebrations
Amrita Vidyalam here organized it in a traditional manner. Under the watchful eyes of their teachers, the students sat on the ground in front of their parents and performed “Paada Pooja” of the parents.
The highlight of the event was the lecture on the sacred student-teacher-parent relationship by the head of the school Mangalamritha Chaitanya. The Gurupurnima celebrations included a competition of chanting of the Bhagavad Gita and a cultural programme performed by the students. Sanskrit and Kannada skits were performed on the occasion portraying the importance of a guru.
