New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS): Demanding justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots post assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, civil society groups have called for a joint rally here on Sunday.

Various human rights organisations on Friday jointly condemned the 'state terrorism' of 1984 in which thousands of Sikhs were killed.

"A joint rally will be held from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar on Sunday to condemn the state terrorism of 1984," S Raghavan, president of the Lok Raj Sangathan, told mediapersons here.

"Hundreds of people will participate and demand punishment for the guilty of 1984 anti-Sikh riots," he said.

Saying that it was the state's responsibility to protect citizens, social activist John Dayal said: "State has been enjoying the impunity of the crime it committed."

"State is not in a habit of giving justice," he added.

The rally has the support of more than 30 political and non-political organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Social Democratic Party of India, United Muslim Front, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations and the Sikh Forum.
