Mangaluru, Nov 2: Minister for youth services, sports and fisheries, Abhaychandra Jain has questioned why anyone should expect him to visit the house of Prashant Poojary from Moodbidri, who was recently killed. Reacting to repeated criticisms passed against him by Hindu and BJP leaders about not paying visit to the family of Prashant's after his murder, he quipped whether people also expect him to visit the house of dreaded underworld element, Ravi Poojary, when he dies. He was speaking to reporters at Chikkamagaluru on Sunday November 1.
"I have no qualms about visiting houses of common people. But why would I visit the house of a miscreant upon his death? Over 20 complaints had been registered in police station here against Prashant Poojary. Do you think I should have gone to his house?" he questioned.
The minister recalled that he had neither visited the house of Kabir who was killed in a shootout when transporting cattle, nor had he tried to get any compensation sanctioned to him. He said that unbecoming behaviour, threat calls etc are occurring because of mean politics and tacit support of BJP. "Prashant was a flower vendor working by roadside. How could be build a house costing Rs 50 lac? An investigation needs to be conducted into this aspect. There is a possibility of his being murdered on account of enmity, but I have nothing do with his killing," he stated.
In the meanwhile, a complaint filed at the local police station has sought legal action against persons who have posted information in social websites that allegedly seeks to humiliate and harass a local entrepreneur, Abul Ala Puttige, and his family members. In his complaint, Abul Ala said that his name has been dragged into the murder of Prashant Poojary unncecessarily by some persons, and that unscrupulous elements have undertaken malicious campaign against him and have been misleading public by spreading false information that I have extended financial assistance for this crime," he said in a complaint filed in the town police station here on Saturday.
