Dubai, Nov 4: Little Flowers Mukamar – UAE, an association of parishioners of St Theresa of Child Jesus Church, Mukamar, residing in the UAE will celebrate its fifth anniversary in a special way with differently-abled children on Saturday November 14 and Diwali celebration with non-Christian community members on the following day, November 15.
The venue for the anniversary celebration will be Arunodaya Special School, Salmar in Karkala and Diwali celebration will be held at St Theresa Church open ground, Mukamar - Santhoor Koppla.
Over the past four years, this organization has held its annual celebrations in Dubai. However, this year its has decided to celebrate its twin events back home in Mukamar and Karkala. Incidentally, both events fall on Children’s Day and the auspicious week of Diwali festivals.
In a media release, president of the Little Flowers Mukamar association explained the reason behind this unique attempt and said that the LFM 5th anniversary celebration is not just a simple ceremony but an initiative to build a bond between school and community. The aim of the event is to sensitize people from all walks of life on the challenges faced by the differently-abled by individuals and their immediate family in different parts of the world and to create a general attitudinal change.
Speaking to daijiworld, Sr DonaldaPais, managing trustee of Jeevan Welfare Trust Karkala said, This is the first time in the fifteen years' history of our school any NRI-based association has come forward to celebrate its anniversary with us. I would like to sincerely thank the entire team of Little Flowers Mukamar, and I would like to take this opportunity to invite our donors and well-wishers to this mega event.

About Arunodaya Special School
Arunodaya Special School for mentally challenged children in Salmar, Karkala, was set up in the year 2000, with an aim to cater to the needs of the special children and provide them with a healthy and friendly environment conducive to learn the life skills.
This school represents the vision of Sr Donalda Pais, managing trustee of Jeevan Welfare Trust Karkala. She is not only a simple and humble person but also the driving spirit behind such a big venture.
This special school has proved to be a blessing not just for the people of Karkala but also its neighborhood. The school provides academic, vocational, medical and psychological support to the children and their parents. Children are assessed and dealt based on their abilities.
Currently the school has 30 regular students and 47 still in the waiting list. All these children belong to families from low socio economic status. Presently, there are three caretakers, two special educators, four physiotherapists and one speech therapist working for the school.
The children participate in cultural and sport activities both at local and district level.Three students from this school had qualified for national-level Olympics in the year 2009. The school also bagged consolation prize in state-level folk dance, organized by Saanidhya Rresidential School and Training Centre for the Mentally Challenged, Saanidhya Samartha Centre, and Ganesha Seva Trust, in the year 2010.
