Udupi, Nov 8: Bolstered by the victory of the Grand Alliance of JD(U), RJD and Congress in Bihar elections, KPCC chief and state home minister Dr Parameshwar on Sunday November 8 said that the Bihar results reflect the one-and-a-half years of Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
Participating in a programme organized by Kaup block Congress committee (south) to celebrate the birth anniversary of Devraj Urs, Parameshwar said, "Narendra Modi has fooled the people with his speeches for the purpose of vote bank, and the Bihar election results reflect the one-and-a-half years of his government."
"During 2013 Congress had organized padayatra in three places in the state, and Ullal-Udupi padayatra was also one of them. A few people had told me not to hold the padayatra, and I had replied that once I take a decision, I do not change my mind. After the padayatra, people responded well and the state Assembly elections brought us victory," he said.
"Congress party is necessary to the country. Without Congress there can be no harmony, and without harmony there can be no peace. Equality, social justice, peaceful life and development form the ideology of the Congress, and even Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi thought on same lines. They sacrificed their lives for the nation. Is such peace present in the country now?" he questioned.
Slamming BJP-led NDA government, he said, "BJP is questioning everything - practice of faith, religion, food, and creating conflict among people of different religions and castes. Before Independence, the British had questioned Mahatma Gandhi if India would be able to safeguard its freedom. Today the BJP is proving the British rules true.
"After BJP coming to power, intolerance has increased in the country. Even after 130 years of Congress in this country, the party's ideologies and principles have not changed. In the next general elections Congress will win with majority and come to power again," he said.
"The dharma of Congress is to uplift the poor and socially oppressed classes. There should be strong harmony in Kaup constituency. In the next local body elections, the party workers should put full efforts and more women should come forward. There are about 60,000 booths and even if 20,000 have proper office-bearers, no one can shake Congress," he said.
He also said that anti-social elements would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those who try to spoil peace and take law into their hands.
"Being the home minister, I have now got opportunity to go to people and win their hearts. People have given me power and I will do my work sincerely," he said.
District incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake lauding former MP J P Hegde said, "Now people have realized the sincere work of Jayaprakash Hegde. The present MP (Shobha Karandlaje) only gives assurances and visits her constituency only once a month. This shows Modi's leadership."
Commenting on Bihar election results, he said, "We are witnessing a change in the country."
Around 200 JD(S) workers including state secretary A K Sulaiman and Udupi district working president Ghulam Mohammed joined Congress on the occasion.
Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary, J P Hegde, Gopal Bhandary, Ghafoor, Veronica Cornelio.and others were present.
Parameshwar later held a review meeting with officers of western range police. Thereafter, he visited the Congress office where he spoke to reporters.
He said that celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti was Karnataka government's decision. "There are people who are against celebration of Tipu Jayanti. Tipu was a patriot who fought for our independence and did good work for his religion and promoted peace," he said.
On the bribery allegations against minister Anjaneya's wife, he said, "I have discussed the matter with him. He will explain everything openly in a couple of days, and the chief minister will also look into it."
