Mangaluru, Nov 9: "Today the government wants to celebrate Tipu Jayanti, tomorrow it may even celebrate Osama Bin Laden Jayanti. Congress ministers look like they are in coma when they are caught sleeping by the media. People of Dakshina Kannada district must raise their voices against the weak state government," said DK district BJP president Pratap Simha Nayak.
He was speaking at a protest organized by the district BJP near Dr B R Ambedkar statue opposite Town Hall here on Monday November 9, to condemn the 'deterioration' of law and order situation in the state and Dakshina Kannada district, and demanding the resignation of social welfare minister H Anjaneya over alleged bribery scam involving his wife.
Nayak further said, "Day by day Dakshina Kannada district is turning violent. On the one hand, there is illegal sand mining and on the other, there is illegal wood transportation. But our district incharge minister Ramanath Rai is busy in sleeping. A lot of anti-social activities are happening in Mangaluru, and people are living in fear and there is no one to give them confidence. Those facing more than 10 cases are freely roaming with minister Ramanth Rai. It looks like Ramanath Rai is the main power source for these kind of activities.
"When Kabeer, a cattle trafficker was shot dead, the government representatives lost no time in going to his house and giving Rs 10 lac to his family. Recently Prashanth Poojary was murdered - he was not smuggler and instead he was doing social service. Till now the government has not approached his family or announced any compensation. Law and order in our society has weakened. The police department is filled with corruption and there is no security for the people. From November 15, we will hold a rally to expose the Congress government's weakness and the state of coma it is in."
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, BJP leader Ravishankar Mijar said, "Chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah should stop making fake promises. Yettinahole project is a major failure and Kolar district is not going to get any water from that and even Dakshina Kanada district will go thirsty in future. Even Town Hall work has remained pending from the last one year."
Referring to social welfare minister H Anjaneya, Mijar said that the minister has a very good name, but the work he is doing does not suit his name. His wife has taken a bribe of Rs 7 lac, hence the state government must immediately drop him from the cabinet."
Krishna J Palemar, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Yogish Bhat, Sudheer Shetty and others were also present.
