Mangaluru: Efforts on to release 9 arrested in Kuwait for performing puja

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru/Kuwait

Mangaluru/Kuwait, Nov 10: The external affairs ministry is putting in its best efforts for the release of the nine Indians, hailing from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, who were arrested in Kuwait for performing Satyanarayana Puja allegedly without official permission.

The nine Indians, employed in Kuwait, are said to be office-bearers of Navachetana Welfare Association. They were arrested on claims that they had performed Satyanarayana puja in violation of Kuwait law, sources said.

It is learnt the Indian ambassador in Kuwait is in touch with the authorities there and is holding talks with the government representatives concerned. It is also learnt that as a result of his intervention, the anxious families of those arrested have been allowed to speak with them.

Sources also suggested that the Kuwait government had been preparing to deport the arrested men to India, but on the request of the families and the Indian ambassador, the move has been put on hold for now. The families are worried that if the arrested men were to be deported, they would find it difficult to go abroad again.

It is learnt that an enquiry would be conducted again at the government level and the future course of action decided based on the findings.

Relatives of the arrested persons had approached external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj with a request to help them in the matter. MP Shobha Karandlaje too has brought this incident to the attention of the minister

Shobha Karandlaje said that after the issue was brought to her notice by a Karkala-based family, she had contacted the external affairs ministry with a request to get information about them. She said that efforts are on to get the arrested persons released and brought to India at the earliest.

Kuwait is unlike Dubai. Law of land must be fully respected and adhered too. Some of our freinds wrote here, why no one follow law of Law in India. Our indian citizen are worst law breakers. There are so many instances the foreigners are behind the bars for breaking the law of the Land. Freedom does not mean that whatever our wishes can be done. President of Navachetan Welfare should have obtained approval from the authorities before performing any poojas. They landed in trouble for thier negligence. Indian Embassy will do their best to release patron of Navchetana and families must put pressure on the Local MLA and MP for speed up.

Instead of comments and blame game, why don't all of you get together and Pray for their well being and release from captivity without any punishment so that they can earn livelihood and support their Loved ones. Jesus Said Two or Three gathered in my name, I will be there and whatever you ask will be granted. So lets get together and Pray for them continuously so that our Brothers will be released soon and there will be no troubles.Amen.

While empathizing with those arrested, why should they conduct all these religious ceremonies in a country where laws are very strictly implemented without going through the formalities of getting permission etc.!!

Kuwait Govt. is lenient / tolerant enough to grant permission for any social, cultural or religious event. Religious gatherings and even celebrations are permitted by adhering to local laws. The office bearers of this organization should have gone through the local procedures instead of inviting trouble unnecessarily.

Hope the situation would come normal and be released soon to continue.
One needs to be careful, has to abide by the law of the land wherever lives.
Sometimes errors happen not because of ignorance but for the attachment towards culture, faith, etc.
It is to be appreciated for now a days as many ME countries are slightly getting into Liberal laws and progressing for better.

Some people go beyond the rules & regulation stipulated by Kuwait government and faces the consequence. Puja could have been done non-officially (private place) without much publicity.

I hope the government will show some lenience and release them on warning. After all, they are family people and they do not deserve deportation.

It is always better to obey and follow the rules and law of the land.

A similar incident happened in Sharjah some years back where a group of Indians staged a drama against the law of the land and put them into severe troubles.

I commend the intervention of political individuals and wish a speedy end to this matter.

A small misjudgement from us and taking things for granted puts so many people in trouble. Foremost, they may lose their job. secondly their children will find it difficult to get accommodated in Indian schools being it mid-academic year. Not disregarding the amount of troubles their family members and old parents back home undergo.

This is when we realize the preciousness of the democracy in our country. We disturb the faith of other people just for the sake of our ego. Such people need to be sent on voluntary service to countries such as this to get straightened up.

First of all this Navachethana Welfare society is not a registered organization in Kuwait. Second thing they have not taken permission from the authorities before perform the Puja. In Gulf countries we cannot do whatever we want in any place. Follow law of the land and don't be in trouble. Praying for their quick release.
