Bengaluru, Nov 12: It is learnt that Kannada writer, playwright and actor, Girish Karnad, has received death threat, reportedly warning that he would meet the same fate as that of M M Kalburgi, who was killed by unidentified assailants sometime back.
The caller reportedly told Karnad that he had made a mistake by demanding for the renaming of Bengaluru International Airport in the name of Tipu Sultan instead of Kempegowda.
The city police also received a complaint accusing Karnad of insulting Hindus and Vokkaliga community to which Kempegowda belonged, by his utterances. The complaint said that Karnad had disturbed social harmony by expressing the above view.
In the meanwhile, Mysuru-Kodagu MP, Pratap Simha, has filed a complaint with the city police commissioner of Mysuru, saying that an organization has issued him death threat through Facebook page. He said that an organization named Mysuru Huli Shahid Millat Mahan Tipu Sultan Indian Muslim has posted the photograph of Pratap Simha alongside VHP leader, Kuttappa, who died on Tuesday at Madikeri, with a warning asking him to think of ways not to meet his death in this fashion. Pratap Simha delivered his complaint to city police commissioner, B Dayanand, after which a complaint was registered in Vijayanagar police station there.
The city commissioner said policemen would be posted near the MP's residence in view of threat to his life.
