Bhatkal: Two teenage sisters found hanging in Honnavar

Bhatkal, Nov 12: In a tragic incident during the Deepavali festival, two teenage sisters allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday November 11.

Sunitha Shankar Gowda (17) and Mangala Shankar Gowda (15) are persons deceased. They were both found hanging from a tree at Salado village in Honnavar taluk.

As per the information available, both sisters asked their mother money to buy new clothes for Deepavali. Their mother gave them Rs 3,000, but both the girls reportedly demanded more. The mother could not afford to give more.

The sisters were later found handing by ropes side by side on a tree.

Sunitha was studying in 10th standard while Mangala was studying in 8th standard at Vinayak high school in Kolakki Village.

The family is said to be from a poor economical background.

A case has been registered at Honnavar police station. Further investigation is going on.

    RIP... Nowadays suicide is taking place for a silly reasons.... These 17 Year and 15 Year kids are not a small kids and they are are well enough grown to know about what is life. There may b a parental mistake. Teach the kids about the value of money. Very much agree with Jerry Moras comments.

    if this was really an suicide to buy dress even after getting 3000 Rs for it from poor parents means should not feel sad for such kids.Selfish dint even think about their parents situation:-(

    Rs 3000 not enough in Honnavar? Here during my times we hardly demanded any! Knew the value of money from a tender age.Want to teach the same to children. Upbringing too has some methods to it.

    Very Sad news. I dont know what is going through to that poor mother?!She gave them birth, provided all basic necessary things and even gave money to buy cloths!. God bless that Lady.R.I.P. to the departed souls.

    Our education system needs to be changed, what we see is big bag with 20 kg weight on young school students.

    This should change, General knowledge sessions for kids and usual information life other thank school syllabus should be thought thoroughly.

    With such loss may God bless the entire family and make life easier for them.

    Its not 20 kg or 30 kg, its what our education system teaches. Get a job arn more money without money nothing. Do whatever you want but earn money. And the media and the surroundings nourish theese thoughts. Children are just given the task of studying. So they dont know what is work. Parents tell them to study and go for tution. So they think that money is just printed on a printer. We dont know whats the exact cause here but the way we groom our children is a threat to our selves and to society.

    There is something wrong with parenting in some families.
    Here is my advise as a parent of teenage kids :
    Do not give the children what they want. Instead earn for it in way of giving some task to kids at home or work elsewhere. It is not child labour. Many of us think our kids should do any job help parents (specially coming out from poor background families They think that we have suffered and let not our children suffer.

    This is what I learned. I leant from my parents if I need a new pant or shirt I had to work for it (I mean at home). I used to sell vegetables and I used help parents. Hence, I knew exactly what it takes to earn Rs.1

    Issue is many of the kids do not know it is takes to make Rs. 100 today.

    I have teen agers exactly aged 16 I have them understand what it means to earn $100.00

    Many of the parents babysit the kids don't do it.

    If they ask you for cell phone or dress or any other items, you need to be smart enough to tell them to earn for it.

    You might ask a question what might 17 year can do ? Can do a lot Ask them to give tuitions younger kids for a fee It works.

    Ask them to water the plants and pay them for their that task Do not give the money away simply because kids asked for it.

    Many of the kids do not want to listen to our life stories Hence be a smart parent and not working parent.
    Hope this helps to become some smart parents

    Thanks Shenoy for understanding. Teens have peer influence or peer pressure due to their identity crisis. They would look smart. But never say no their requirements. They would not like to get insulted as well specially with others. In this case situation of suicidal case, girls are not aware of parental situation and they think they are deprived of basic needs. As a parent we need to make them understand their needs and their wants. If they want and they want, then they got to learn for they want. It need parents want.

    The mother could give them Rs. 3000/- The girls found the amount to be too small hence demanded more. When their demand was not met, they committed suicide.

    Do the events above indicate that the family is poor ? I don't see it.

    Nevertheless, committing suicide is not a brave act, its cowardice. You will not get a medal for what you did. Now, RIP.

    Rather than protesting against Tipu Jayanti and demanding 50 lakhs for Isubu, both the community groups should fight against poverty. Make some good ground work, meet poor people try to work for their betterment, they will surely vote for you next time irrespective of your party.

    Foolish act.Being poor is not a curse. So many born poor people have become Millionaires.Application of mind is required. Being aware of their parents conditions they should not have committed suicide.
